Sarah understood that God had shut her womb, but she didn't trust God to open it.

I have never understood Abraham's conversation with God when he keeps reducing the number of "those righteous" in Sodom and asking Hod if he'd spare the city

I believe the key is found in verse 23 when Abraham asks, "will you sweep way the righteous with the wicked?" He knows that righteous Lot lives there and he's trying to intercede with God to save Lot from God's judgment. So if Lot's family is righteous then all there would need to be is six other righteous people in the city. Surely that would be the case. Therefore Lot would be safe from God's judgment.
